Welcome to SmartRail USA 2014

Welcome to Charlotte and SmartRail USA 2014!  CATS is happy to have you here in the Queen City.  We’re home to the Charlotte Panthers, Hornets, and Knights; banking centers; sweet tea and Southern hospitality.  Charlotte is currently immersed in a transformation that is shaping our community to integrate rapid transit with transit-oriented development. We are engaged in extending our light rail line and building phase one of the city’s streetcar system.  In fact, light rail has been such a success that we are in the process of expanding  our current platforms to handle three-car trains. The citizens of Charlotte overwhelmingly embraced transit and the vision set forth by its leaders in the 1990s.  And, we are trailblazing the path to realize that vision.  We hope while you’re here you’ll hop on the LYNX Blue Line and enjoy all of the amenities our city has to offer. Maybe you’ll even stay awhile!

Carolyn Flowers, Chief Executive Officer, Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS)

On behalf of the City of Charlotte, I am delighted to welcome you to SmartRail USA 2014. Transit has always been an important part of life in our city and for an event focusing on innovation and enhancing the passenger experience, I can think of no better place than Charlotte to play host. This community is on a journey that started in 1998 to transform how we manage growth by integrating rapid transit with land-use policies.  That journey focuses on development along five major transportation corridors and is designed to incorporate rapid transit with high-density, pedestrian-friendly communities while preserving the character of our city’s neighborhoods that are adjacent to the development. It’s exciting to see so many attendees from around the nation and indeed the world, as well as some familiar faces! I know the two days of this event are packed full of sessions, but I know many of you have plans in the City too – there’s always a warm welcome and lots to see and do. Have a great few days!

Councillor Vi Alexander Lyles, City of Charlotte

Hear from our attendees on developments in the industry and why they attend our events

David Leininger, Executive Vice President & Chief Financial Officer at Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) speaking at a SmartRail USA event in 2013.

Decision makers from global railways and metros attend SmartRail to share best practices on developing, integrating and financing the latest railway technologies. This is where they inform themselves regarding future purchasing decisions.

SmartRail USA is where suppliers and solution providers can showcase their latest products in front of pre-qualified buyers from across North America’s transit agencies who are responsible for the region’s biggest projects.

The aim of SmartRail USA…

Creating smart transit systems is key in developing integrated transport networks that support communities and facilitate growth. An effective transit system can support job creation, integration, sustainability and environmental protection but it must serve the needs and demands of its customers to do this.

With technology evolving and passenger demands increasing, Government, Transit Agencies and innovative solution providers must work together to utilise new technology and create the efficient, integrated and intelligent transit networks of the future. SmartRail USA brings together over 500 senior level attendees, 100 expert speakers and over 60 leading exhibitors to provide the definitive showcase for next generation transit networks.

…more than just an event

SmartRail is not only a global series of rail technology showcases, but we are dedicated to helping the rail and metro industry drive innovation and remain competitive. As such, we have created SmartRail World your year round guide to our changing industry, giving you the very latest news, views and comments from the world of rail and metro Signalling, Telecommunications, Passenger Information Systems (PIS), IT & WiFi and Fare Collection.
